Mount Mitchell

That's mom

Mom and dad recently went for a "breakfast hike" up at Mount Mitchell State Park, a short distance from us.  Now, I placed the quotes up there because I'm not able to do the air quotes thing what with having paws and all, but I suspect mom may have had to entice dad to do this particular hike by adding food as part of the activity.

Actually, Cleo, you know damn well I love hiking just as much as mom and we wanted to head out early, forgoing breakfast at home so we could get a nice early start, so don't even-

Whatever.  Anyhoo, as you'll see from these pictures the trails they chose (of which there are about a bazillion) afforded some unbeatable vistas ( the ones with the surrounding mountains, not their faces).

Yep, mom again, awed by the surrounding mountains

You know, you're always more than welcome to come hiking with us, Cleo, so you might get to enjoy some tasty treats, too.

Yeah, no, I'll take a pass.  I get all the exercise I need climbing up into my chair.  As I was saying, mom and dad were rewarded with some fabulous views, and when they finished their hike they selected a nice secluded picnic table just off from the main parking area and grilled a breakfast of scrambled eggs, bagels and veggie skewers.

Dad wanted to include this last one because of the fly or bee or whatever it is he didn't realize he'd captured in the photo.  Kinda looks like a plane buzzing by, doesn't it?

And just so I'm not left out of another post, here's an example of me doing what I do best when they go off gallivantin' like this.

Cleo you look too comfy to be going for a hike. First time I was at Mount Mitchell was way back in the early 1980s. And on that trip is what I became an avid birdwatcher. I saw my first Chestnut sided warbler. My husband even had one carved especially for me. So I enjoyed the reminder photos I'm glad your mom and dad had such a good hike and found you snoozing when they got home.

Those are beautiful views. It sounds like a tasty breakfast after their hike too. The fly must have buzzed them to see what was to eat.

We live in flatlands, so no mountains or even big hills to climb, but The Hubby and I do enjoy a hike in nature too.
Cleo, if you hold down the legs a bit better, maybe they won't leave you to your own devices!

Hiking is a good thing indeed and the views are fabulous. I will say I'm more of a couch potato, but I do go for my walks. You just have to keep moving if you're a human. Not so if you're a kitty.

Have a purrfect day, Cleo. My best to your peeps. ♥

Very pretty scenery. I agree with your dad that food always makes a hike more tolerable. The bug photo bomb is funny. Keep showing your folks how to relax after a hard day.

Very nice scenery! Mom beans says it would take more than food to get her to climb a mountain. She's okay on the flat prairies (where we live) but getting up the hills in the valley requires some help.

We think you've got the best of both worlds - you get to rest and relax while your beans are out doing bean stuff, and you get to rest and relax on them when they get back. MOL!

Beautiful scenery. Sounds like a good question for a quiz show as I did not know it had such high status!

Bootiful, but before popping in to say to, we had to ask Google where is Mount Mitchell. Of course, with a better memory, or just popping over here (and see the little header up top) we'd have been reminded you are North Carolina-folks! Sigh. But then thinking fast on our paws is not an option anymore.
Such a gorgeous place ... would that be the lower end of the Shenandoah ... we have many times visited in the northern parts along our borders up here (Md., Va., W.Va), just wondering ...
though are more like Cleo these days, smartly resting at home!

Wow, such pretty country! Though I'm with you, Cleo...leave the climbing and hiking for the humans...I'd nap too. ~Ernie

That is a beautiful spot. It is good to have to work hard to see something so lovely. It makes it more rewarding.

What a great outing for your mom and dad, Cleo. That bee look HUGE in that one photo. :)

Thanks for sharing the photo of you doing your thing. Hey, somebody has to take care of stuff. Right?

Hugs!

What terrific shots your people took on their hike. You guys have terrific scenery! It is marvellous living in the mountains! Our Mom has not been able to go here since she moved back as she tore her Achilles tendon while moving and then covid...the ankle is still not healing, so Mom has not even been able to climb to the local viewpoint. We shall have to live vicariously through your peeps photos! Thanks so much for sharing them, you made out day!

That's quite the hike, I should think. Peepers goes out walkin' usually once a day but 'round here, the ground is flat. Not sure if she could climb a hill (I know, mountain, but seriously, I don't think my peep can even make it up a bunny hill.) like that. MOUSES!

Beautiful vistas! I believe we visited Mount Mitchell and also Chimney Rock when I was about 7 or 8, a long ole time ago, lol. Mom and I didn't climb anything though as we are both afraid of heights. Really enjoyed the gorgeous area from the ground! Cleo you look very comfy!

WOW WOW WOW!!! That amazing views!!!!! I am afraid of heights so I don't know if I could have handled that. LOVED seeing Mom and Dad in the photos! I also love that they grilled breakfast after (I'm all about the food!!). You live in such a beautiful state and I love that you are both enjoying it so much! Cleo, you are MUCH prettier than the view BTW!!! Oh and that fly was too funny!
