On the Road

My goodness. That's it, just my goodness. I don't recall ever spending so much time in a moving vehicle in all my howevermanyteen years. This post will be somewhat delayed as we've been traveling,

Dad's Ever-Alert Copilot

although we're going on a couple of weeks now in just one more of our temporary homes. Let me just say, it's been a trip. Since leaving our home in Asheville, we've been Airbnb & Hotel hopping, and we're not quite done yet.
One of our last days at the hotel in Asheville before hitting the road northward

All I can say is, we're looking forward to getting settled sometime next week. All the human frustrations of uprooting & relocating- yep, I'm getting to experience 'em firsthand. I'm seeing and hearing all the marvelously colorful words human beings splurt during such times, and I know they're not done yet. Riding sucks while confined to my carrier (and I let dad know it oh so loudly, let me tell you) but not quite so bad when I can do it like this:

Oh, and dad says he doesn't wanna hear anything about me being unrestrained and all that. We got here safe and sane (Well, we're safe anyway).

Smudge, how lovely you got to know your dad and mom so well before this upheaval. Now to get over car travel and many different bedrooms. On to the new permanent one so you can get your scent and furs all over it. I am typing fur Lynn cause stupid woman did not listen to me and stay home. She has finger wiggle and lots more weeks using her arm fur a hammer. she says the one advantage of this is she can break ice with the fiberglass thing as she curses. Precious

Oh poor you, Smudge! That sounds like a huge upheaval. We are very glad to hear that you will soon be settled in your new home. Regarding restraints in cars, Queen Tama must travel unrestrained and with access to a litter box in the car. Otherwise, well, otherwise.... And many years ago, when #1 lived in Chicago and had a summer cottage in PEI, Canada, she travelled every summer with her then one cat, unrestrained in her car, the 1600 miles there! And then back again!

MOL MOL MOL Smudge
I will never ever NO never forget with my brother in law moved back home from Syracuse with two cats singing first soprano at the top of their longs. He said sometimes you gotta do whatcha gotta do to keep the peace. AND he decided to put the radio on a classical music channel and guess what the girls joined in with a more tuneful yet still soulful serenade.
Yay for you 3 and most of all YAY you Smudge it looks like you kinda took traveling in stride.
Hugs Cecilia

You look much happier travelling like that, Smudge. If it keeps the peace then that is the way to do it.

That sounds like it's been quite the journey for you and your folks, Smudge. We are glad you got there safely! XO

You look so comfy in that last photo! Sounds like you're on quite an adventure. But you're together, that's the most important thing!

Sorry everything keeps changing. I know cats don't like that. My Friday and Elvira traveled 3000 miles loose in the car when they were delivered to me. Friday loved it and even got on the dashboard. XO

Well, I'm glad you got to travel in comfort. Mum went to visit her sister and I had to get in the carrier. Fooey!

Smudge, somehow I got way behind and missed that you and your peeps are moving. What an adventure you are on. I remember when we moved…it was only 10 minutes away from our old house…and it was challenging. So I can only imagine how things are going with you. But it sounds like you’re handing it well. And I can’t wait to find out where you eventually land. ~Ernie

I've been spending lots of time in the car too Smudge. Though mom bean has been pretty good about stopping and letting the car sit still. I get to wander too, sometimes even when the car is moving. I hissed at a big truck that dared to get too close!

Mom bean says we'll be moving soon too. But only across the city. I think that sounds like less trouble (and time) than your move.

Enjoy your new home!

Lulu: "Road trip!"
Java Bean: "Such fun!"
Charlee: "And there you have the difference between dogs and cats, Oona."
Chaplin: "Well, one of the differences, anyway ..."

Moving is so stressful. We did it five years ago and it was scary. I had to be confined to my carrier for quite a while, which I hate. Glad you got there safely!

So where up north are you moving to Smudge!? At least you are doing it in comfort. Hope you like your new home!

Wow, we've just been reading about your "mis"adventure. Mom and Dad have lived in their current house for 39 years and have no intention of going anywhere. So we are all very lucky we have never had to do what you are doing. You do seem very chill, however. Mom says that if she had to travel with nine of us in the car, she'd need psychiatric care at the end. Safe travels! Glad you don't get car sick like us. You are a real traveling cat. We can't get past the first stop sign without being sick, but now we get "drugged". That is no fun either. It must be exciting to see those new places.
