For some time now, mom and dad have wanted to try a tent of some sort since I seem to have a thing for having something over me. I've shown them that under the table is my go-to place, like a security blanket. When I hear rain pounding on our roof and thunder rumbling, I usually hide in the tight space under the wall-mounted vanity in our spare bedroom. Last weekend they shopped for a kitty tent/house/dome and, though they wanted to be budget-conscious, wanted to get me something sturdy and comfortable. To make a long story short, they decided it would be best to try something out temporarily to see if I would get used to it, and since they've amassed a mountain of boxes in the basement, got what they figured was a good sized one and, well-
Don't laugh- it's temporary, just the right size, and best of all it was FREE! |
Mind you, this is only temporary, but I think I've already proven that this is my new safe space, especially when I need a place to hide.
My box is actually nice and cozy, and it has more than satisfied their curiosity about how well I'll do with it, don't you think?Dad wanted me to throw something in here- he feels bad that he didn't recognize my new toy from Ellen as an Easter egg. I told him it was okay, and that most people already know how thick-headed he can be at times. He got kinda snippy with me and told me I needed to clean my room. He can be such a dad sometimes.

Tents are the best! Take it from me, June ... mine are from "kraft paper" and boxes (like yours) and blankies draped over stuff. No fuss, no muss, no cost, too!
JUNE
Well, that certainly was a successful experiment! We have a number of boxes here and there, in our very messy house, and we love either hiding in them or using them to pounce on people!!!
Our question is, will there be a more permanent replacement?
Purrs,
The Chans
Smudge, I have a cardboard box that Lynn bought some sticky contact paper and put on it to make it look pretty. Pretty to her because what do I care. When I go inside and close my eyes it's nice and dark. Humans are so silly about wanting pretty things. We kitties are as pretty as anything can ever get.
That box makes a very good tent. Maybe that will become your permanent tent until you get fed up with it.
i haz my own private cat-bana

Smudge when it is purrfect that is all that matters and OMDs you have a very stylish Arch door too. You can see out but no need to worry about something sneaking up on you.
WTG Dad...no need to spend mega bucks right?
Hugs Cecilia
That box is the perfect size. IKEA sold a little tent years ago. I wish they still did because ours is in rough shape. No worries about the egg. Usually when I send kitties pumpkins, their folks think they are tomatoes. :)
I think that box is purrfect! Maybe your mom or dad can decorate it for you.
WOW sweet Smudge, you do look totally fabulous in your special fort!
Smudge, we have used boxes all over the house, and the cats just love 'em!
We'll do anything for our kitty cats, even if it's free.
You look furry comfortable in you box Smudge! I think they should get you a tent or box for effury room in the house. MOL!
Well, that does look quite to your liking, Smudge! Maybe your mom and dad can help you decorate it!
That looks like a perfect box!
When they decide you need an upgrade, Lord Burton suggests something like this:

He got one similar for Christmas and thinks it's just the best!
Boxes are GREAT! Plus, since they're made of cardboard, they can serve as scratching surfaces as well as Safe Hideaways! And there's neffur any shortage of them either.
Mummy also gets loads of lovely paper bags from the supermarket, which make great toys, once She's snipped off the handles.
Well I am totally jealous I want one LOL :-)
Have a boxtastic weekend 👍
Smudge, That box looks quite nice and I can see that it is cozy :)
It's purrfect!
Purrs, Julie
that was a brilliant way to see if you would use it!! Tell Dad and Mom I just bought Roary a really cute cat tent for his birthday (but don't tell him, it's a surprise)....from the Tiniest Tiger website! His birthday is June 10th which is good because his stitches should be out then. Roary had emergency bladder stone surgery last Thursday and he is currently sporting the "cone of shame."
We have a couple of those around the house for dad to trip over. It's only temporary until it is permanent!
My former kitty used to love tents (tip: in Canada at least you can actually get nice cat tents at the dollar store! You might want to check it out) I am betting that your folks will get you a nice tent and you'll stick with the box!
You fit in there purrfectly. Well done and not the peeps know.
Have a purrfect day and week, Smudge. My best to your peeps. ♥
Nice cozy shelter! Nice-size door, and we like yer doormat, too...
That looks really cool!
And look what you have out front of your box! A beautiful soft mat. I got one from Miss Ekken too when I won a contest. The flannel is of the plumpest and softest, Just like me.
