Where to Begin

So yeah, the above picture was actually taken one morning near where we've moved to.  The mountains of Asheville, NC are stunning, and with the fall colors coming out they're about to be even more so.  Mom and dad can just about step outside the door and pick a place to get their hike on since we're literally surrounded by mountains.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, and I've done my best to help mom pack and get ready for the move.

I had to help mom sort the straggler items, you know- all that last minute little stuff that almost always gets tossed together regardless of category.  I also had to help her select the most comfortable best tissue for wrapping stuff.

We're trading neighbors as well.  Sure, the birds, squirrels and lizards have been pleasant company, but we're switching to something a little, well, more dangerous, shall we say?  Yep, dad managed to snap this shot right nearby.

The focus is less than spectacular, but thankfully dad isn't as stupid as he can be sometimes and knows enough not to get too close.  He came upon a mom and her cubs about 50 feet away (says he), got goose bumps the size of peas, took some pictures and headed home to change his pants😆.  Though he wasn't quick enough for photos he's also encountered wild turkeys and a fox right nearby.
So we're kind of settled in now, dad's loving his new job and mom's still plodding through all the annoying, stressful sh*t that goes along with moving (evil side eyes in dad's direction).  It's much cooler out this way, and sure, they'll miss being near the beach, but there's tons to see and do out here, and they can always take a long weekend or spend a couple of days back at the beach if the urge arises.

So here we are now, on the other side of the move.  I'm loving the unpacked boxes before they get sliced up and recycled, and I'm able to relax and get back to my duty as official lap warmer.

Wow! What a lovely location you've chosen!
Am always amazed that folks can move house; I don't think we are going to leave this old house except in pine boxes!

Moving is a huge to-do. TOWCB, Ikkyu, actually moved with #1 three times, across continents! #1 says we're never, ever moving from this house and we hope she means it (she says she does too!). Anyway, we're glad that things are going smoothly for you and your family, Cleo. Your new neighbours look... interesting~

You have a beautiful view from your new home, with some interesting visitors too. That must beat Bird TV! I hope you are all very happy in your new home.

Wow, what a great place to live. I'd love to have bear neighbors, as long as they know to stay in the forest.

Well,, at least you are farther away from hurricanes. Tell Dad to set up a game camera (they aren't that expensive, really) instead of worrying about how close he is to the bears !

Good thing your mom has you to help her pack. Looks like you did a fine job. Mountains are much better than the beach.

Whoa! Your dad can't make up his mind, can he? Are those the Smoky Mountains? TW did a road trip through there. I'll bet the move wuld not have been possible without your help.

Concats on your move Cleo! We're sure they couldn't have done it without your help.

We think you might to stay indoors with them big black bears nearby. You'd be a tasty mouthful.

The beach is so much easier, as it is a giant litterbox. Go wherever you want lol but yeah, the mountains are nice too. Although some of those big furry neighbors aren't so nice. May need to keep a spare change of pants handy.

Asheville is one of the places I’d love to visit one day. The mountains are so beautiful. Autumn colors must be really amazing there. I bet you enjoy fun critter TV :-)

What a beautiful spot to move to! We moved from a beach area to the side of a big hill with great views and whiffies. So happy things are settling for all of you and...enjoy the boxes!! - Tom, Penny & Bridget

Oh, I am so envious. One of my favorite fantasies is being able to have a shack on the Outer Banks beaches from fall through spring, and a mountain home during the hot summers. Be safe out there, Cleo!

Ashville is on my list of places i want to visit! BEAUTIFUL! and i would love to be surrounded by wildlife (at a safe distance of course!) What do you parents do that you get to move --are they remote workers? Hope they gave you the master bedroom!

We have moved too ... in June ! What a mess your poor mum ! Rosie is now an inside cat, after 12 years of in and outside cat, but it seems that she loves it here and doesn't ask for going out ! That's nice that you like your new place too !
