No, this isn't some cognitive test only a stable genius could ace. So, the box:
Though dad generally despises the questionable quality of much of what's available via the frequently necessary evil that is amazon.com, it has become, as I said, a necessary evil. Oh, sure, there are brick and mortar options within traveling distance, but even such trips have become quite the nuisance, to hear dad bitch through gritted teeth. So-
The box, my new temporary "shelter", was dropped outside our front door recently and contained a particular plumbing tool that was barely- and I emphasize the word barely- as long.
Said tool, however, was nowhere near the width or depth of the box, and dad laughed like a madman as he sliced through the packing tape and pulled open the flaps and thinking of the many packages he receives at work with things printed on them touting such bullpoop as "made with less packaging", or "uses less material", blah, blah, blah.
So, other than a box that Dad cut an opening into way back when we lived in Asheville that I occasionally lounged, I've never really been one for boxes.
Well, after dad removed the tool from the box and left the coffin-sized thing on its side on the living room floor (mom actually fit inside it), I apparently surprised them both by stepping into it and settling into a corner.
This was a week or more ago now, and that box still sits in the corner, my safe space when the mood strikes. Anyhoo, onto the mouse:
Dad walked into the boss's backyard the other day and noticed something perched on the floating tube connected to the robotic cleaner that roams the bottom of the pool.
On closer inspection, he realized it was this delicious little morsel, likely clinging with death grips to one of the floats on the tube.
Dad grabbed a net and extended the handle in order to reach the poor little creature, and when the mesh approached, it jumped into the water, fleeing for its life toward the pool's edge.
It wasn't able to get out on its own, so dad brought the net up from beneath and scooped it up, gently placing the net on the ground, allowing the frightened critter to hop out and scurry off to safety into the shrubs.
And they all lived happily ever after.
The end.

Smudge you tell the best stories. The first let's say we're glad the mouse got saved because you know what she probably had a dozen babies living in a shoe waiting to be fed. And the Box looks like a perfect fit for you. The problem is that big box stores are getting less and less, and we're forced into ordering more stuff off the internet. The end result is a lot of cardboard at home. You're making good use of yours. And oh yes since it's Christmas in july, you can put the Christmas tree in there when it's time to take it down later.
That's a pawsome box! We had a mousie in our pool once too. Unfortunately, he didn't make it.
Obviously, the company that sent that tool KNEW about you, Smudge, and decided that you needed a double-wide for your amusement.
Note to your dad: there are items available to pool and pond owners that allow any trapped wildlife to be able to crawl out of the water, and I'll betcha the company mentioned has 'em!
The Hubby created his own version from some crap wire mess he's had kicking around the place for decades, just in case any critter goes for a drink in the sump pump discharge hole and falls in.
That is some nice bonus box you got sweet Smudge. It was sure nice of your Dad to rescue that little critter.

OH my cats Smudge
I've received Amazon shipments that also in a box big enough for a gazillion of the same item . Win win you got a box and it is a purrfect fit I bet Mom could get in with you.
What is that little critter that was in the pool some type of rodent but I don't think a regular mouse?
Hugs Cecilia
That was so nice of your dad to rescue the mouse. That is a nice box. Glad you get to keep it.
Wow! That box is crazy big, but nice and spacious for y our lounging pleasure, Smudge. Nice job by your dad saving that snack. um, we mean mouse from the pool. :)
It makes me laugh, too, when they use such big packages for things which clearly don't require it.
Good job on the mouse rescue.
Enjoy your box!
You know, Smudge, sometimes a box comes along that is just too perfect to pass up, and it sounds like that is what happened to you.
That was a lovely thing your Dad did for the mouse!
Purrs,
The Chans
Well, Smudge, at least you scored a terrific box to hang out in. How come your humans haven’t decorated it for you yet, with a cushion or a blanket and some toys?
Oona: "Oona has several boxes of assorted sizes to sit in right now, but nothing as big as that box. If you are not going to use it, perhaps you could send it here and Oona will subdivide it into a new ninja headquarters."
Charlee: "What do you need a new ninja headquarters for?"
Oona: "NINJA THINGS. You would not understand."
Chaplin: "Do you think the mouse thing is going to come back, Smudge? I sure hope so. Maybe you can be friends with it. Yeah, that's the ticket ..."
This post escaped us. Cute mouse, perhaps he had escaped from the box. Perhaps he could return and share it with you, there is room it appears, roommates are fun, you can charge him rent you know. Then buy your own treats. Tell the Dad to go get him back ... of course, he'd require a vet check before moving in, like a background check you know, or the ICE agents might come for him. Can't be too careful these days.
That box looks most impurressive, Smudge. We also have a huge box - in the living room - that We can all three fit into together. Moreover, Mummy could also fit into it - We'd love to see that (mol).
That is a wonderful box and perfect for stretching out. That was a lucky mouse to be saved by your dad.
We once had a large litter box type container which we kept outdoors to catch rain water which the boys liked to drink. Several times I found a drowned mouse in it, but I suspect Eric probably caught them and left them for later!
Mt dear, I didn't know you had blogged!
