Hoo Boy, Talk About Random!

So here's a mishmash of a post:

1.) Mom and dad, ever the wanderers, drove down to Looking Glass Falls in the Pisgah National Forest recently.

Mom's been wanting to check the falls out for some time, and this particular Saturday found them wanting to do something outdoors.

Not too far from the falls is Sliding Rock, a 60 foot, well, rock, which you can slide down on your butt, landing in an 8 foot deep pool.
Sliding Rock

2.) During a recent routine appointment dad lost a crown on one of his chompers, and since the tooth was a lost cause decided to just have it pulled.  Mom, ever the mom, made sure dad didn't wither away to nothing while having to endure a day of liquid diet followed by a day of soft diet.  She cooked and pureed some delicious mashed red potatoes and peas & carrots, and soft-scrambled some eggs with sharp cheddar in them.

In spite of his baby food jokes dad said this was delicious, and thanked mom for taking such good care of him.  Of course, on the third day he was miraculously cured enough to go out for breakfast, and even stop for a beer at Guidon Brewing Co. in Hendersonville on their way home from Looking Glass Falls.

3.) Take a gander at some more recent neighborly sightings:

One of the neighborhood cubs was right at the end of our driveway.

Sadly, dad recently found the dismembered remains of one of the cubs in the field next door.  We're not sure what- or who- did this.
Finally, dad was standing at the kitchen sink one morning and caught movement in the lot next door, and out from the brush came this handsome buck.

The quality is horrible because the picture was taken through the window screen, but you can see the rack on this young guy pretty easily.

So there you have it.  My hodgepodge of a post.  Y'all have a great rest of your week.

Really enjoy the outside wanderings. Our waterfalls would be frozen now if I ventured outside with Lynn, which as a kitty, I won't. We have a herd of deer in our back yard and Lynn may put out a post on them one day. The bucks here are now out of site and the girls are just hanging out in a gang. I think your dad's food sounded yummy, actually. Very tasty. Of course, I only eat the crunchies Lynn throws my way. So I am jealous you have a good cook at home.
I like looking at the animals we have, but I think I would hide under the bed at the sight of bears in our yard. Please keep them at you home, Cleo. Precious

The sliding rock looks like fun! How nice to see the bear cubs, but sad about the one that died.
I am glad your dad made a speedy recovery from his dental. I have been waiting since early May to get my bridge fixed. At least with masks no-one can see my gappy smile!

Death of a bear cub was likely another male bear. That stinks, but being able to watch the bears is so cool. We have none here.

Love your header Cleo...it's purrfect!

Whoa, you have lots of big critters nearby. You'd best stay indoors and hang out with the beans when they aren't off wandering.

Oh Dear Cleo Dad has my sympathy and Mom gets a standing ovation for keeping him nourished. I have had so much work done in my mouth.
OH my CATs what the heck the bears are supposed to be hibernating. Have you seen in wolves of mountain lions up there. I suspect one of those was the problem. I actually like the screen effect on the Buck.

I loved this "mish mosh" and I thank you for this post! Now I know I am making us scrambled eggs tonight with cheddar :) (Think I might put some hot dogs in there too, delicious ones from Feltman's) if you have never tried them (if you even eat hot dogs) you MUST! They are INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! I have had a few teeth pulled and it's no fun, having a meal like you had makes it MUCH better!!

Cleo what a great post of things fun! (except the tooth) We really liked seeing the falls and sliding rock. The cubs are fun and sadly that was most likely another bear that did that. Dad decided to have all his toothies out a few years ago and drank old peoples stuff for a week. He is old after all. Love the new header! You look supurrb!

I like your new header, Cleo! It clearly shows who is the boss around your joint!
I love seeing the wildlife in our suburbia locale, but I do not want to see bears!
My dentist is so handsome, that I really don't care what is going on with my chompers; the excuse to bask in his presence is enough for me!
Er, um...don't tell The Hubby that I have ANOTHER boyfriend...

Mmmm, mashed potatoes. But I'm not sure they're worth getting a tooth pulled! Very pretty scenery on your humans' outing.

How sad about the cub. Nice photos, you live in a beautiful area. Your mom is very sweet to make sure your Dad had plenty to eat. My only complaint is no photo of you. XO

Love your mish mash! Our bears are still in hibernation, probably for at least another 6 weeks! Too bad about the cub, the coyotes go after them here! Have a marvellously Happy Day!

Yikes on losing your crown, but mom made a good meal for you. Tell her I want a plate of that too and nothing is wrong with my mouth/teeth. Love the bears and the deer.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. ☺

Oh Cleo. My mom comes right through where you are all the time when she goes to see other favorite brother in Charlotte. Hendersonville is a landmark for her as she comes through. Familiar territory etc. He has an entire herd of deer in his back yard. Been there for years now. He gave up landscaping. He feels sorry for them because development stole their homes.

We have bears here where I am and every now and again they come through the neighborhoods. I am surrounded by woods and most of the town is. So wildlife is abundant.

That cub was a terrible find! Sad to think of, but perhaps a male bear did it. I'm so glad you're dad is doing better. I have to get a tooth crowned next week. ~sigh~ Who knew those silver fillings from childhood would bring ruin? Oh, well, I'll have just one left after this. And in the meantime, I've been telling folks I'm a 'triple crown winner'. :) Love these adventure photos!
