On Sundays mom and dad almost always have mom's whole wheat flax blueberry pancakes for breakfast. It's a thing, I guess, and they've had them every single Sunday morning for as long as I can remember. The big difference between them is the way they eat them. Mom likes to keep things basic, and enjoys the simple taste of plain pancakes and blueberries. No toppings, no distractions; just the simple goodness of something natural. As they should be, says she.
And then there's dad. As you may recall from his birthday post some weeks ago he received a long-desired refill on his pure maple syrup from New England. Mom and dad have never seen eye to eye on all things food, this being one of them. On their first date many moons ago mom invited dad to her house for a breakfast of French Toast, where they proceeded to eat them right out of the pan, unadorned. Of course dad wouldn't say anything what with them being a new couple and all, but he'd much preferred to have had them slathered with the sticky golden brown goodness of maple syrup (with a hearty slab of butter beneath, of course). Flash forward to the present and, well, as you can see, like I said above about how they have different preferences...
Mom's delicious pancakes as she prefers them, just as is right out of the pan...
… and then there's dad, his plate full of syrup topped with pancakes. Of course this photo doesn't really show the full amount of syrup or the depth of saturation the pancakes have suffered. Ok, I'll give him one for his fruit intake what with the nanners on top, and I guess another for keeping away from butter for years now, but the sea of syrup beneath and throughout the stack are dad's real reason for eating mom's pancakes. It's okay, dad. She knows you enjoy them. She knows you just like the syrup more. Just don't go whining to her when the gallon jug's empty.

Cleo, at least they can agree to disagree on the way to eat pancakes! It's taken me about 25 years to train The Hubby how to make MY toast; lightly, while he can eat his toast that's as dry as a bone, and hard as a rock!
At least they can share in eating the pancakes even though they have their own versions. My human and her ex-boyfriend's food differences were so wide (plus he has an eating disorder) that it negatively affected their relationship, and was sort of the last straw before they split up. They just had NOTHING in common anymore.
Our Dad is a butter and syrup kind of guy too. He likes Log Cabin and even though he knows it is not close to the real deal of years ago at least it reminds him of his younger days. Oh and Butter is good for the fur too. He gives us a small bite with before he puts the syrup on. Yesssss
cleo...we gotta go with dad on thiz one....sure may bee we wood switch de nannerz for perch but ...ewe noe !!! :) ♥♥♥
I would be with your mum, Cleo. I don't like anything too sweet. I did try pancakes with maple syrup on our last cruise but gave them to Ivor to finish.
Different strokes for different folks. The mom would like those pancakes with just a little syrup.
Now that's weird, our Dad said he could have them both ways and be okay with it.
I say to each his own. Funny thing though, I live in New England and I prefer the fake syrup. :)
Cleo, are you sure your dad's name isn't "Izzy"?
Ah, preferences. We all haz 'em.
Cleo;however, they agree on the impawtant thing how much they love you!!
Hugs Cecilia
PS now I'm hungry
MY mom doesn't care for maple flavor. She knows that there has to be something wrong with her!
She is sort of in between about syrup on the rare rare times she makes pancakes, or has her preferred waffles, a little syrup..not much. She was brought up by her Dad who cooked..and his food stu\yle was plain and that is how she is to this day. A plain cook and she eats plainly.
I'm with your Dad on this one! Give me maple syrup and butter and........tuck a few strips of bacon or some sausage links in as well and I will be in bliss!
