Settling In

And so it's all yours, Smudge-

Well, thanks, new dad person.

You know, I'm still not comfortable sitting with my new parents. That picture of me laying on the footrest of dad's my chair with him is a one-off. Oh, he's tried, and my mom has to keep saying "baby steps", but I'm gonna need some time. I do, however, let them give me lots of loves, scritches and pats, and I love a good backrub!

They've both made several attempts to pick me up, but I make sure to get all wiggly and squirmy to let them know I'm not having it. Why is it that some humans are so grabby? Anyways, I'm still getting used to my new surroundings and doing lots of exploring, but I did find a perfect spot on the back of the futon in one of the bedrooms. I can sit and watch the birds and stare into space to my heart's content.

Dear Smudge I do not like being picked up and I've lived here for more than 10 years. I don't know what humans think we cats are meant for. After all we do have four legs instead of two even though we don't have thumbs. You just let that new mom and dad give you all the pats and pets that you can get. You're now in a new safe home and you'll eventually get very used to it all.

Hi Miss Smudge, I happen to agree with you about that "lap stuff" and I'm only "3" (thank you for the purrsday wishes by the way). I came here at 6 mons and mine Mommy has still not figured out "why", purrhaps she never will. But I was "handed around" a whole bunch those first few months, maybe too much, too many hands, even I don't remember fur sure ... I'll sit a little bit for a brushing, but the minute the brush stops, off and away and I won't even sit beside her! We all have our ways, our secrets, our needs and our wants, but you know you are loved and in the best home ever with two very special pawrents, trust may come in time ... one never knows for sure ... see if Cleo can whisper in your ear ... be well little one, be happy.

Morning Smudge!!
MOL MOL Humans are grabby...indeed it is all because you are so very adorable and lovable. You appear to be enjoying your mom's gentle strokes...I love the photo of you with your front feet tucked.
We heard Asheville area had a most amazing sighting of the Aurora Borealis this past week. did you see it? I cannot imagine seeing it. Truly the meaning of the word AWESOME.

Hi Smudge! Don't worry about not wanting to be picked up, a lot of cats don't like it. Take your time and you and your new family will learn together what is acceptable and what is not.

Stay wiggly, Smudge!
Human time and cat time are two very different things.
Maybe if treats or a lickable treat tube are offered...

Smudge, it's always hard getting used to new places, but your new Dad and Mom are the BEST!! I know they already adore you!!! Tell them not to feel bad, Roary lets my husband cuddle and hold him ALL of the time, but me? Nope. I pick him up and try to cuddle and he gets all "squirmy". It hurts my feelings but it is what it is. I think in time, you will realize how much your Dad and Mom love you and how lucky you are to have such a wonderful home! In the meanwhile, relax and enjoy those birdies! Much love Smudge! xoxo

It will take a while sweet Smudge, all those new sights, sounds and hands can sure be intimidating, but we know once you do you'll be totally happy and content. In the mean time, just enjoy your new life!

Welcome Smudge! I'm sure in time you'll get the beans figured out and either tolerate the grabby hands or let them know that's off limits.

Enjoy your new home. You've made it to a very good place!

You look as though you've landed on our paws there, Smudge. It's early days yet and you've all got to find your way. You know, humans can have funny quirks, too!

Hello Smudge. We are sorry to be late commenting. Our scribe was away for several days. It sounds as though you are settling in nicely and we have no doubt that you will soon think of your new family as anything but grabby!

Every now and then I pick up geriatric Jezebel (usually for meds), Terra, and Polly (these two youngsters still get into places they shouldn't. None are crazy about it but Polly cracks me up by appearing to swim in mid air while I transport her. lol Best wishes to your lovely family.
