Some New Friends

Here's a selection of photographs of some friends dad's made while out and about at work.  The alligator nearby was cool and the goose family up the road is fun to watch as they hold up traffic, but these guys were found hanging around outside the office/pool area here where we live. Dad says the moth is an Imperial moth, the beetle an Eastern Hercules beetle and the katydid (dad thinks) contributes to the fascinating chorus of sounds out here at night.

A late addition to this post, this black widow was spotted near a front door and is most likely a female as two red dots on her back, which are just about impossible to see in this photo (excellent photography skills, dad), will tell.

I don't mind looking at the katydid.... but does he need to hold it? I wouldn't.....

We don't know if we would want to call any of those guys "friends." Great photos, though.

Oh, our old bro William would have loved this post. He was a friend to all sorts of bugs.

Black widows are very shy and not aggressive at all, did you know? In fact, one we had once ran away and hid when our old sis Olivia began to snack on her web!

Yup - that's a katydid. Or at least that's what they look like up here in Ohio.
Cleo - you stay away from that black widow spider!

The moth is pretty. We like the other insects too, but we kill all the black widows around our house.

We liked them all except the creepy black widow. We wouldnt even play with that one. Our Dad has seen those big beetles. He caught one when he was little and put it in a clay house. Guess who was missing after dinner MOL
