Sorry, No Orbit Post- Just a Dad Rant

Before Orbit passed away he and I, as you know, enjoyed our early mornings together.  The whole world was quiet, except for the occasional snoring seeping from the bedroom as my wife slept away.
A couple of months ago we got a new neighbor, who moved into the then-vacant apartment just below ours.  This guy apparently has a quality sound system, and almost daily we can pretty much tell what he's watching with his fabulous, over-the-top, surround sound, larger than life, obnoxiously low end-heavy, nearly-shake-the-walls, feel the beat through my ass in the chair whatever the hell kind of system it is.
I was up a little earlier than usual this morning, getting out of bed by 4:15.  I woke off and on around one-ish, and could hear the noise from the bedroom, and when I came out to the living room just after four I held myself back from trudging out the door and downstairs to pound on his door.
I read with my earplugs in, and even now as I write this, whatever the hell he's got on is boom boom booming right up through the floor.
When he first moved in we got off on the wrong foot when he approached our door at night (our light was off, mind you) more than once to offer opened and cut into baked goods and candy, asking, in exchange for my wife's phone # (says he wanted decorating advice) and help with painting, etc.
I got a little short with him the second time he came knocking, and he went to the rental office and turned it into a federal case against us.
Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but he tried to start trouble, and it's been a little awkward since then.  I'm extremely laid back, but I finally spoke to those in charge about the noise, and though a letter is supposed to be sent out nothing has been done yet.
After quietly tolerating several months of this I think I'm about ready to make another move.  Maybe a little further south and west.  Hell, we've always wanted to live out towards Asheville.  We'll see.

Sorry to hear about this added layer of stress in your lives. My mother's upstairs condo owner has been so nasty to her over the years, it's obvious that the woman is intentionally picking on her. What did a 80-plus old lady due to piss off a successful middle-aged business woman? And we have had our ups and downs with our neighbor's too; we are also considering a move, combined with my new job commute. Is it abnormal to wish that you find a new happy place, just so you can get a new kitty to write about? -hangs head-

We had next door neighbors who stayed up all night selling crack and playing music so loud the doors and windows rattled. Nothing worked, even taking them to court. We learned sometimes you have to be creative about getting them to be quiet. For us, it was dinging their cars from a bedroom window with rocks and a slingshot so the alarms went off. The "music" was totally silent while they waited to see the person messing with their cars. Best yet was seeing them on Saturdays taking the alarm systems apart trying to fix them. And the satisfaction of knowing there were dings on the sides of their expensive cars. Put your mind to it, I bet you can think of something too.

Oh we understand totally about bad neighbors. It is a huge pain. But not a lot you can do but move. Hope you can figure out things.

I wouldn't want to live near that neighbor either!

That's just plain rude! Asheville is a very nice place, we're a bit south of there though.

I've had noisy neighbors like that and despite noise laws or tenancy rules, they seem to get away with it. I would suggest you try to blast him out whenever it is he tries to sleep but you'd likely get arrested or told to move for breaking the noise law. Sorry you have such a jerk for a neighbor.

We feel your pain, and hear it, too. I wish I had rented instead of buying this stupid condo after deciding to sell my house, and moving away would be a whole lot less of a hassle. (I've got a stalky idiot neighbor too, and the HOA couldn't care less.) Maybe you guys can find a nice little house to rent.

Oh goodness, I think everybody has had this happen to them at one time or another. Seems to come with apartment living.
I suggest you find a house to rent. Pay attention to the neighborhood though as you can inadvertently move next door to a crack house or some other unsavory types. Sometimes trying to find reasonable rent can mean you are in a very questionable neighborhood. Do some research on crime in the area. If you are moving to another town or city, ask realtors in the city where you are moving to about good vs. bad neighborhoods. It's their business to know, so even if you are not buying a house realtors are a good resource.
I really feel for you. I hope it works out.

Mommy feels your pain. She once lived in a 'partment complex that had a really noisy neighbor. The neighbor set his fabulous vibrating sound system on repeat. Yup. The same record all weekend. He of course wasn't home. The rest of the complex suffered. Mommy's headboard at the time was metal, and vibrated along with the beat. Thankfully at the time she had a couch that could be made into a bed, and she let the bed "sing" in the other room with the door shut. Needless to say, with all the complaints (even a noise citation from the police), he never ever dared to do that again.

That must be so frustrating. We have neighbors who like to yell across the house and slam doors. Why do some people not understand that the entire neighborhood does not need to hear their business?!
